Vitamin A is formed from a group of unsaturated hydrocarbons. The main constituents of Vitamin A are retinol, several provitamin A carotenoids, and beta-carotene retonic acid. All these are required for the growth and development, maintenance of the immune system, good vision, cell differentiation, and for many other important functions in the human body.

Functions of Vitamin A in Women

Another very important function of vitamin A is curing infertility in men and women. Several studies have been conducted to prove the effectiveness of vitamin A in curing infertility in both the sexes.

  • It has been found after research that vitamin A could help in the formation of high quality fertile cervical fluid, which is important for the movement of sperm into the Fallopian tubes in the ovary.
  • Good quality cervical fluid is also mandatory for providing proper nutrition to sperms.
  • Vitamin A enhances the development of healthy follicles, which produce eggs to fuse with sperm in the uterus of women. Thus, if females are deficient in vitamin A, follicles will not be able produce healthy eggs.

The Role of Vitamin in improving sperm quality

Research findings conclude that the sperm quality was improved to a great extent after anti-oxidant treatment in men. Men suffering from asthenoteratospermic (a condition when the sperm with low motility and high abnormality are released), anti-oxidant treatment worked well for them. Similar results were observed when the treatment was given to men affected with leukocytospermia (a condition where high quantities of white cells is present in semen).

Hence, all males and females must intake the recommended dose of Vitamin A in their regular diet to ensure correct proportion of Vitamin A in their body.
